My Hero Academia's manga is gearing up for its grand finale in just a few more weeks, and the creator opened up about the kind of competition he's sparked with the anime! My Hero Academia has been making its way through a special epilogue arc following the end of the final fights with the villains, and the anime itself has been kicking off these final battles in full. This means both the anime and manga are basically working through the same material for the first time in a while, and even the creator feels the pressure of it all from time to time.

With My Hero Academia's manga coming to an end later this Summer, series creator Kohei Horikoshi opened up about some of the series' highlights in a special interview with Da Vinci magazine (as spotted by @shibuyasmash on X) where he had admitted that he has a sense of competition with the anime because while the team continues to make it better than what was seen in the manga as he instructed, he also explains that he also challenges himself to do something only the manga can instead.

How My Hero Academia's Creator Competes With the Manga

"When I watch the anime, I feel like I don't want to lose to it," Horikoshi begins. "I tell the anime staff that I want them to make the anime even more amazing than the manga, but when they succeed I regret it. I try to compete with the anime in a way, doing stuff it can never do, challenging myself to create something powerful in a way that can only be done with manga. But that means I spend even more time on my drafts and drawing details, and it's gotten more and more difficult."

But there won't be too much competing for too much longer as My Hero Academia's manga will be coming to an end on August 5th in Japan. The anime, meanwhile, will be streaming through the rest of the Summer when Part 2 of Season 7 kicks in just a little under a week from the time of this publication. If you wanted to catch up with My Hero Academia's manga, you can find the latest chapters with Viz Media's digital Shonen Jump magazine or Shueisha's MangaPlus service. For the anime, you can find it streaming with Crunchyroll, Hulu, and more.

Rick and Morty: The Anime will be making its highly anticipated premiere later this year, and Adult Swim has some big plans to show it off during San Diego Comic-Con 2024 this year! Rick and Morty Season 8 might not be coming our way until some time next year, but thankfully we're still going to get new entries in the franchise with the release of its full anime spin-off series. Telling a whole new kind of story not seen in the original animated series, there are still many questions about what to expect from this major makeover for the Adult Swim hit.

Adult Swim has been steadily revealing clips and smaller promotional materials through the year, but during San Diego Comic-Con they'll be showcasing the best look at the now in the works series yet. Adult Swim has revealed their panel plans for the year, and announced the upcoming "Adult Swim's "Rick And Morty: The Anime" Series First Look" panel taking place on Friday, July 26th at 12PM local time during the convention for fans in attendance with promises of new details with writer/director Takeshi Sano, producers Joseph Chou and Takenari Maeda, and Adult Swim's head of action and anime Jason DeMarco on hand to dish.

This will also kick off the return of the "Anime-rican" tour featuring the Rickmobile and Mortymobile hitting up nine different cities across the country until getting to Adult Swim's home of Atlanta, GA.

Cartoon Network's Most Influential Show Is Coming Back to TV https://comicbook.com/anime/news/what-a-cartoon-checkered-past-cartoon-network-classics-adult-swim/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 00:01:00 +0000 Nick Valdez f8ddb214-e8f9-42e9-8c99-015c7a8aab10

What a Cartoon!, one of the most influential shows in Cartoon Network's history, is coming back to TV as part of Adult Swim's Checkered Past nostalgia block! Checkered Past has been doing very well for Adult Swim as the block has been airing reruns of classic Cartoon Network series such as Ed, Edd n Eddy, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, and more. There have been a few shake ups to the schedule over the last few months, and later this month there are listings for one of the biggest shake ups yet with a grand return on the way.

What a Cartoon! was a special pilot program that Hanna-Barbera produced with the intent of trying to make as many original shows, from as many original creators as possible for the then very young Cartoon Network programming. These pilots went on to become franchises like Dexter's Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, The Powerpuff Girls, and some of the most successful shows in Cartoon Network's history overall. Now these pilots will be making their way back to TV according to new listings later this July.

What a Cartoon! Returns to Cartoon Network

According to new listings spotted by @Swimpedia on X, What a Cartoon! will be airing with Adult Swim's Checkered Past block on July 29th with the first five pilots from the series beginning at 6:00PM. These listings could change as Cartoon Network or Adult Swim themselves have yet to promote them, but here's the current breakdown for the first few What a Cartoon! comebacks including Larry and Steve, which would eventually form the foundation for Seth MacFarlane's Family Guy.

  • 6:00PM ET - Pizza Boy: No Tip - Pizza Boy tries to deliver a pizza to the Arctic Circle in five minutes to get a big tip. He has many problems on the way, like getting thrown out of a plane.
  • 6:10PM ET - Help? - After Jof injures his finger while sewing, a trip to the hospital leads him to through a maze of corridors and offices where he encounters all types of quirky doctors and dubious examinations
  • 6:20PM ET - Buy One, Get One Free - A man named Reilly gets a cat named Flinch in order to impress a female cat lover named Sofie and threatens the cat that if there is a scratch on anything while he's away, he will send him to the violin factory.
  • 6:30PM ET - Yuckie Duck: I'm on My Way - Yuckie Duck works as a paramedic, but does more harm than good to his patients.
  • 6:40PM ET - Larry & Steve - Steve, a homeless dog, is adopted by dimwit Larry (the only man to understand dog) and lives disaster after disaster when Larry takes him shopping.

Adult Swim and Cartoon Network have yet to confirm What a Cartoon!'s return as of the time of this publication, but this could be huge if these respective shorts have been restored for modern broadcast.

One-Punch Man Artist Shares Special Attack on Titan Tribute https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-punch-man-yusuke-murata-attack-on-titan-tribute/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 23:30:00 +0000 Nick Valdez e972f1f2-c330-4b10-b0a6-dde6e9adf683

Yusuke Murata, artist behind One-Punch Man, Eyeshield 21 and more, has shared a cool tribute to Attack on Titan in a rather unexpected way! It's been a huge milestone for Murata as while the artist might be more well known for their work translating ONE's original webcomic into the highly successful One-Punch Man manga, Murata is one of the more notable artists that's ever run in the pages of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. A lot of this success began with the release of Eyeshield 21 (written by Dr. Stone writer Riichiro Inagaki) years ago.

Eyeshield 21 first hit the pages of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 2002, and ran for seven years before it wrapped up its run with over 300 chapters. In celebration of the manga's milestone 21st Anniversary, Eyeshield 21 has come back with a special new art book featuring special messages and arts from all sorts of creators. But this also goes the other way as well as Murata has shared a special Attack on Titan tribute combining together with Eyeshield 21 to make for one heck of a football game. Check it out below:

What Is Eyeshield 21?

Originally written by Riichiro Inagaki (who went on to create Dr. Stone) with art from Yusuke Murata (the artist behind One-Punch Man), Eyeshield 21 is a little tough to check out the manga's run. There are physical volumes of the manga currently available on shelves as licensed by Viz Media, but there's currently no way to legally catch up with it online. Thankfully, you can still check out Eyeshield 21's anime adaptation now streaming with Crunchyroll.

The first volume of the Eyeshield 21 manga is teased as such, "What does a wimpy kid who's been bullied all his life have to depend on but his own two feet? Sena Kobayakawa is about to start his first year in high school and he's vowed not to get picked on anymore. Unfortunately, the sadistic captain of the football team already has his eye on Sena and his lightning-fast speed."

As for One-Punch Man, Season 3 of the anime is now in the works, but has yet to announce a release window or date as of the time of this publication for the new episodes. J.C. Staff will be returning from Season 2 to handle the animation production with Chikashi Kubota returning to design the characters together with Shinjiro Kuroda and Ryosuka Shirakawa, Tomohiro Suzuki will be handling series composition, and Makoto Miyazaki will be composing the music.

My Adventures with Superman is now nearing the final episodes of its run for Season 2 with Adult Swim, and a new early preview has been released teasing Lois' struggle within the Black Mercy! Things have taken a turn for Clark as now that he's been captured by Brainiac, the newest episode of the series saw the villain dig deep into Clark's psyche to make him weak enough to have his body taken over. With the villain being successful in this matter, Lois figures her only option is to chase down Clark in his mind and save him somehow.

My Adventures with Superman ended the previous episode with Lois putting on the Black Mercy, and the early preview for Season 2 Episode 9 sees Lois waking up within Clark's mind and losing her memories in the process. But it's clear that this mental version of Clark's father and mother are much different than their real counterparts, and Brainiac is likely going to work hard to somehow erase Lois before she has an impact on Clark's current state. Check out the preview for My Adventures with Superman Season 2 Episode 9 below as released by Adult Swim.

My Adventures with Superman Season 2 Episode 9 Release Date and Time

My Adventures with Superman Season 2 Episode 9 is titled "Pierce the Heavens, Superman!" and the synopsis for the episode teases it as such, "Jimmy and Kara race back to Metropolis to stop Brainiac's invasion of Earth; Lois tries to free Clark from Brainiac's control, only to lose herself in an alternate reality where Superman never left Krypton." My Adventures with Superman Season 2 Episode 9 will be premiering on Adult Swim on Saturday, July 13th at midnight EST. If you wanted to catch up with the first season and Season 2's available episodes so far, My Adventures with Superman can also be found streaming with Max the day after their initial debut.

Powerful foes will emerge from Clark's alien past, Amanda Waller will take aim at Superman, Lois will grapple with the future, and Jimmy Olsen will spend an unbelievable amount of money. Krypton is coming for our young heroes, and its arrival will test their strength, loyalty, and love like never before."

One Piece Promo Hypes Shanks' Biggest Fight Yet https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-episode-1112-shanks-vs-kid-fight/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 22:27:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 10d2eed1-62a6-46c2-813f-d454188dd01c

One Piece officially brought Red-Haired Shanks back to the spotlight this year following the events of the Wano Country arc, and now the anime is readying for his return to action with a special new promo! One Piece: Egghead Arc has been steadily building to be an even more game changing arc than seen with Wano Country because while Luffy and the Straw Hats are in trouble on Dr. Vegapunk's future island laboratory, they are not the only crew that's been going through a massive wave of changes through the arc's events. Next we'll get an update on Kid's crew.

Much like how previous episodes of the arc showed what happened to Law's crew after they left Wano's shores, One Piece revealed that Kid's route took him to the legendary island of Elbaf. It also turns out that Shanks is there as well, and the two crews are in a collision course. To celebrate Shanks' new fight in the anime for quite a long time, One Piece has shared a special promo hyping up what Shanks is about to do in Episode 1112. Check it out in action below:

One Piece Episode 1112 Release Date and Time

One Piece Episode 1112 is titled "Clash! Shanks vs. Eustass Kid" and the promo for the episode teases it as such, "Emperor Red-Haired continues to reign over the seas! Fearlessly confronting him is a man with a bounty of 3 billion berries from the Worst Generation! Both holding fast to their beliefs, the two captains in a deep historical rivalry face off in distant Elbaf!" Premiering in Japan on Sunday, July 14th (and Saturday, July 13th internationally), One Piece Episode 1112 will be streaming with both Crunchyroll and Netflix when it drops.

If you wanted to go back and check out more of the One Piece anime from the very beginning (along with various OVAs, movies, and other specials), you can find the entire back catalog streaming with Crunchyroll with both Japanese and English language dubbed audio. You can also find the newest chapters of the One Piece manga (with the three most recent chapters being available for free) with Viz Media's digital Shonen Jump library or Shueisha's MangaPlus service if you wanted to read ahead to see what's coming next for the Egghead Arc instead.

There's also the live-action One Piece series with Netflix as it's now working on Season 2 for a release in the future, so time to catch up on the first season!

McDonald's Breaks Down Jujutsu Kaisen Collaboration (Exclusive) https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-mcdonalds-collab-explained-exclusive/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 22:15:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 522bdc8b-5fb0-403c-965f-fac2249aec79

It's impossible to deny that anime is becoming a big business in North America. Routinely, big anime films, such as Jujutsu Kaisen 0, hit big at theaters in the West while various streaming services are attempting to carve out their own places in the anime game. Earlier this year, McDonald's teamed up with Naruto/Bleach studio, Studio Pierrot, in creating a promotional campaign, "WcDonald's", that created anime shorts, food items, and even transformed one McDonald's establishment in California for a limited time. Now, the fast food chain has teamed up with none other than Jujutsu Kaisen and we had the chance to visit New York City to learn more about the anime team-up.

The new collaboration primarily focuses on the "Special Grade Garlic Sauce", a new take on the popular "Black Garlic Sauce" in Japan. Along with offering the new sauce for a limited time, McDonald's also created new packaging for said condiments that are all reflective of the heroes and villains of Jujutsu Kaisen fame. Yuji, Megumi, Gojo, Sukuna, Nobara, Nanami, Geto, and Mahito each get their own respective covers, though the sauce remains the same. The sauce itself can only be purchased via the McDonald's App though along with the purchase, anime fans can get a thirty-day free trial of Crunchyroll to catch up on Jujutsu Kaisen's first two movies and feature-length film.

In attendance for the tasting event was Alvin Zhou, a food filmmaker who was quite familiar with the world of curses before walking reporters through how to make some of these items. You can check out a list of the items below that you can make for yourself. You might want to move fast however as the promotion is set to end in one week and you might never get the chance to check out the Special Grade Garlic Sauce. While the collaboration didn't give us Chicken Nuggets shaped like Sukuna's fingers, here's hoping those arrive in a future collab.

McDonald's has had several anime collaborations in the past though most were focused primarily on Japan. Teaming up with shonen franchises like One Piece, it was probably a safe bet that we wouldn't see Jujutsu Kaisen getting a Happy Meal this time around thanks to its adult subject matter. Still, it once again proves how widespread anime continues to grow in North America.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Debuts Opening: Watch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/fairy-tail-100-years-quest-opening-watch/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 21:58:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 40dfb631-af2a-47a2-a298-85e8b8b67e50

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest has officially kicked off the franchise's return to screens, and the first episode of the sequel anime has debuted its opening theme! Hiro Mashima's Fairy Tail manga and anime came to an end a few years ago, but the official story was quietly continuing in the pages of its official sequel, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest. The sequel story kicked off around the time the anime came to an end, and has since been picking up where the original left off as Natsu and the others take on their toughest challenge yet as the strongest members in the Fairy Tail guild.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest is likely going to be the biggest returning franchise of the Summer 2024 anime schedule for many fans, and the first episode feels like a full return to form as fans are introduced to a few new faces before getting thrown into the real thick of it as Natsu, Lucy, and the core fighters all return to take on the titular "100 Years Quest," a quest so tough no one has completed it in that time. This all kicks off with the new opening titled "Story" as performed by Da-ice, and it features a tease of all the big battles to come.

How to Watch Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest

If you wanted to check out Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest as it airs through the Summer, you can now find the sequel anime exclusively streaming with Crunchyroll. They begin to tease the anime as such, "Fairy Tail is a gathering of rowdy wizards renowned as the strongest guild in the Kingdom of Fiore. Its strongest party--comprised of Natsu, Lucy, Happy, Grey, Erza, Wendy, and Carla--is preparing to undertake the legendary '100 Years Quest,' a mission of even higher difficulty than S-Class quests. Natsu's team earned special permission to attempt this quest after overcoming their life-or-death battles against the Black Wizard Zeref and the Black Dragon Acnologia."

The synopsis continues with, "Their destination is the first wizard guild in history, Magia Dragon, located in the far northern continent of Guiltina. However, in the hundred years since Magia Dragon was founded, no one has ever succeeded in completing this particularly brutal quest. Their first visit to Guiltina brings Natsu's team face-to-face with mysterious new towns, enigmatic new gods, and ominous new foes..."

Adult Swim to Livestream Rick and Morty: The Anime and More Premieres for San Diego Comic-Con https://comicbook.com/anime/news/rick-and-morty-the-anime-episode-1-livestream-adult-swim/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 21:27:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 45af0be5-ec74-4117-8350-3db34d897908

Rick and Morty: The Anime, Invincible Fight Girl, and more upcoming premieres will be livestreamed during a special screening at San Diego Comic-Con 2024! Adult Swim has announced their slate of plans for San Diego Comic-Con 2024, and with them have revealed they are planning to host a huge pirate themed party featuring their current and upcoming shows. This includes some of the new shows previously announced to release some time later this year, and some that are completely new as well. But we'll soon get to see more of it in action as there will be plans to livestream a screening for each of these big premieres!

Adult Swim has announced they will be hosting "Adult Swim's Night of View," a new screening event featuring the full-length premiere episodes of Common Side Effects, Rick and Morty: The Anime, Invincible Fight Girl, and Women Wearing Shoulder Pads alongside the tease of other never before seen Adult Swim content. While fans in attendance will be able to attend the screening, Adult Swim has also confirmed they will be livestreaming the event in real-time on Adult Swim's YouTube Channel at Friday, July 26th at 7:30pm local time. So mark your calendars!

What's Coming to Adult Swim in 2024?

While Rick and Morty: The Anime was previously confirmed to release some time this year, there's a good chance Common Side Effects will be releasing some time this year as well. But the biggest surprises are the full premieres for Women Wearing Shoulder Pads, the first ever Spanish language series produced for Adult Swim, and Invincible Fight Girl, an animated series that has been in development with Cartoon Network for some time (even thought to be quietly cancelled). If these shows are scheduled to hit through the rest of the year and early 2025, we're in for a great time.

Rick and Morty: The Anime is definitely the biggest draw, however, as that seems the closest to its premiere this year. A concrete release date has yet to be announced, but San Diego Comic-Con 2024 would be a great place to announce one. The anime is teased as such, "In Rick and Morty: The Anime, a new series from the world of 'Rick and Morty,' Rick relaxes in a pseudo-world between multiverses, Summer helps Space Beth fight the evil Galactic Federation, and Morty falls in love with a mysterious girl who happens to be an atemporal being."

Chainsaw Man: Denji's Voice Actor Responds to the Manga's Latest Deadly Cliffhanger https://comicbook.com/anime/news/chainsaw-man-denji-vocie-actor-reaction-manga-cliffhanger/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 21:01:00 +0000 Evan Valentine e0ba9104-889c-47cf-adf0-aa3b2dca72d5

In a sea of unpredictable events and eye-popping gore, Chapter 170 of Chainsaw Man's manga takes the cake in many respects. As Denji continues to fight against both the Chainsaw Man Church and the Japanese government, things have only gone from bad to worse. So shocking were the final pages of the latest chapter that even the North American voice actor for Denji, Ryan Colt Levy, took the opportunity to pipe in. While it might be years before Levy gets the opportunity to re-enact this scene in the manga, it's clear that it has had an effect on the voice actor that might just as long.

Warning. If you have yet to read the latest chapter of Chainsaw Man's manga, Chapter 170, be forewarned that we'll be diving into spoiler territory. Barem Bridge hasn't exactly been the best guy for Denji to be around, as the member of the Chainsaw Man Church wants nothing more than to make sure Denji reclaims his role as the titular devil. Threatening the protagonist with never seeing Nayuta again, Barem takes him and his allies to a sushi restaurant. With the sushi on a conveyor belt, Barem informs Denji that in order to become Chainsaw Man once again, he'll need two key ingredients. Denji will need "everyone's fear" and his own "unhappiness", which Barem helps put into place by revealing the decapitated head of Nayuta.

Ryan Colt Levy Grapples With Chainsaw Man's Recent Events

Levy himself discussed the recent reveal via his social media page, stating that scenes like this are what brought him head first into the series to begin with, "I first found the manga in 2020, It was the wildest, brutal, nuanced, hysterical, deeply layered story I had experienced in a long time. I still can't tell where a page may lead & couldn't be more excited about it. I promise to keep taking care of Denji when it's our turn."

Levy will return, most likely, for the first movie of the anime franchise, Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc. While the first season of the anime was wild enough on its own, if the upcoming film follows the source material, it will be one of the most unbelievable anime films of all time.

Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom IMAX Poster, Runtime Revealed https://comicbook.com/anime/news/overlord-the-sacred-kingdom-movie-runtime/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 20:58:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 6a09cb3b-60ad-4df9-8a8e-b55de8765811

Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom will be the first movie for the long running franchise, and the producer behind it all revealed it will be over two hours long! Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom was announced alongside Season 4 of the TV anime, and with the anime then completed, work in full on the new movie began as it takes on the next major arc from Kugane Maruyama and so-bin's original light novels. Speaking about the upcoming film at a press conference in Japan, producer Kazufumi Kikushima revealed that the team is likely going to be working on it "right up to the very last minute."

Noting that all voice recording is done, and that the animation team wanted to craft their work to the voice performances themselves, Kikushima noted that Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom is over two hours long and what has been previewed already is only the tip of the iceberg. To celebrate this newest update, you can check out the exclusive IMAX poster for its upcoming release below as it gears up to hit theaters across Japan later this Fall.

Overlord Movie Release Date

Directed by Naoyuki Ito for studio Madhouse with character designs from Satoshi Tasaki and music composed by Shuji Katayama, Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom will first be hitting IMAX theaters in Japan on September 13th before hitting other theaters on September 20th. Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment have licensed Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom for a release in the United States in the future but have yet to confirm a release window or date.

They begin to tease the movie as such, "After twelve years of playing his favorite MMORPG game, Momonga logs in for the last time only to find himself transported into its world playing it indefinitely. Throughout his adventures, his avatar ascends to the title of Sorcerer King Ains Ooal Gown. Once prosperous but now on the brink of ruin, The Sacred Kingdom enjoyed years of peace after construction of an enormous wall protecting them from neighboring invasions. But, one day this comes to an end when the Demon Emperor Jaldabaoth arrives with an army of villainous demi-humans."

The synopsis continues with, "Fearing invasion of their own lands, the neighboring territory of the Slane Theocracy is forced to beg their enemies at the Sorcerer Kingdom for help. Heeding the call, Momonga, now known as the Sorcerer King Ains Ooal Gown, rallies the Sorcerer Kingdom and its undead army to join the fight alongside the Sacred Kingdom and the Slane Theocracy in hopes to defeat the Demon Emperor."

Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture Reveals Lelouch's Return https://comicbook.com/anime/news/code-geass-roze-of-the-recapture-lelouch-return/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 19:35:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 5262f49b-2211-4e10-b4d4-3db73d5ac317

One of the biggest new anime sequels of the year has been Roze of The Recapture, the surprising return of Code Geass' universe. While the series might take us back to the conflict between Japan (aka Area 11) and the empire known as Britannia, the sequel is following two new protagonists in Rose and Ash. Luckily, the franchise has not forgotten about the one that started it all as it seems that Lelouch's return might be imminent. Needless to say, it appears as though Roze of The Recapture has some big surprises in store as the sequel continues to release new episodes.

Lelouch has often been considered by many anime fans to be one of the greatest examples of an anime protagonist. Brought up in a world wherein he swore revenge against the Britannian Empire, Lelouch would spend a lot of his time conning some of the richest members of the upper class in chess and other games. When Lelouch discovered an experiment that was hidden by the empire, he was given a "Geass", aka a power that allowed him to order one command that anyone who looked in his eyes must obey. While he could only command an individual once, his intuition and genius along with the superpower made him a threat to be reckoned with.

Lelouch's Big Comeback

Lelouch recently appeared before Sakuya Sumeragi, one of the biggest new characters to premiere in the Code Geass sequel. The third episode did have the original protagonist arrive on camera but there are still plenty of questions regarding his return along with what the future of the sequel series is now that Lelouch is in the picture.

If you want to learn more about Roze of The Recapture, here's how the franchise describes the sequel that brings anime fans back into the world of Code Geass, "The story follows two mercenary brothers from what was once Hokkaido in Year 7 of the Kowa era: Ash, the elder with high athletic and Knightmare piloting abilities, and Roz?, the younger with a knack for collecting intelligence and leadership, who embark on a quest to recapture Empress Sakuya from the clutches of the Neo Britannian Empire."

My Hero Academia: You're Next Will Feature a Major Romance https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-youre-next-major-romance/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 16:26:00 +0000 Evan Valentine d1548a20-1c76-4d69-a436-3421dcd7d909

My Hero Academia: You're Next is presenting a big, and shockingly familiar, challenge to Class 1-A. Dark Might, the big bad of the fourth film, appears to be the doppelganger of the one-time Symbol of Peace and has his own set of henchmen who are aiming to aid him in his nefarious plans. Shockingly enough, while the superhero shonen series has always been well known for its action, it appears as though You're Next will also have an element of romance added to the mix. The romance aspect might not be from who you expect when all is said and done.

At this year's Anime Expo, the shonen franchise didn't just hint at the upcoming romance. Studio Bones revealed that My Hero Academia: You're Next will arrive in North America on October 11th as Toho Animation president, Koji Ueda, declared the following, "We fully recognize a major driving force behind the success of Godzilla Minus One was the way the passionate fan community embraced the film. As the distributor for the North American release, Toho International's goal was to treat the release as seriously as any other, giving it the respect it deserved and that the community who has embraced the franchise for so many years equally deserved."

My Hero Academia: Romance is Next

At the Studio Bones-led panel, the film producers hinted at the idea that the villains Giulio and Anna are a couple, which is typically something not seen in the anime especially when it comes to the villain side of the argument. While the pair has been featured in promotional material, there is a lot that anime fans do not know about the nefarious pairing. Since they are associated with Dark Might, they are sure to have some interesting Quirks of their own.

As My Hero Academia fans know, the end is nigh for both the manga and the anime adaptation. This August, the manga will release its final chapter and while the same can't be said for the anime series, it's a safe bet that season eight will be its last. The fourth film of the franchise hasn't been billed as the series' last so it will be interesting to see how many more feature-length films Deku and company have left in the tank.

Noragami Kickstarts 10th Anniversary Project With Special Teaser https://comicbook.com/anime/news/noragami-10th-anniversary-project-teaser/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 15:55:00 +0000 Evan Valentine f41e4824-ecb4-4bce-8c48-15590ce0b458

Noragami first arrived as a manga in 2010 thanks to creator Adachitoka. Ending this year, the series became popular enough to garner two anime seasons but has not hit the small screen since 2014. Despite being absent from the small screen, the franchise has not been forgotten as a recent poster was released to help celebrate the property's tenth anniversary. While no new anime series was confirmed, the producers responsible for the original animated story haven't closed the door on Yato potentially making a comeback.

Noragami was brought to the small screen by none other than Studio Bones, the production house responsible for the likes of My Hero Academia, Mob Psycho 100, and Fullmetal Alchemist. At this year's Anime Expo, Bones didn't just help celebrate Yato's tenth anniversary but they also promoted their upcoming new anime adaptation, Gachiakuta. Aside from releasing a new poster bringing together Yato and his allies, the producers of the original anime had a message to fans to "stay tuned." Considering how long the manga ran for, there is plenty of material that has yet to be animated.

Noragami Turns Ten

Producers at this year's Anime Expo was that the anniversary celebration was initially supposed to be announced much earlier but needed more time to get everything in order. When it came to the original anime, the CEO of Bones was so enamored with the original manga that they decided to spearhead the animation. While a return hasn't been set in stone, producers certainly hinted that one might be on the way.

If you haven't heard of Noragami before, all of the anime can be streamed on Crunchyroll as the platform was a part of licensing the original anime series. Here's how the streaming service describes the story of the 'homeless god', "Yato is a homeless god. He doesn't even have a shrine, not to mention worshippers! So to achieve his ambitious goals, he's set up a service to help those in need (for a small fee), hoping he'll eventually raise enough money to build himself the lavish temple of his dreams. Of course, he can't afford to be picky, so Yato accepts all kinds of jobs, from finding lost kittens to helping a student overcome bullies at school."

My Deer Friend Nokotan Breaks Records With Opening Theme https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-deer-friend-nokotan-opening-theme-breaks-records/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 15:19:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 077fa3eb-cf84-41fe-8715-13b2d25c9a6e

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Reborn As A Vending Machine, Uncle From Another World, and Assassination Classroom are just a few examples of some of the strangest anime series in the entertainment world. However, these anime adaptations have some major competition in the weird world. This year saw the release of My Deer Friend Nokotan from Wit Studio, the producers responsible for Attack on Titan's first three seasons, Ranking of Kings, and Spy x Family. While the new series focusing on deer might be bizarre, that isn't stopping the anime from breaking new records as the television show's opening theme has done just that.

My Deer Friend Nokotan is so strange that the creator of the franchise, Oshioshio, is even shocked that it was able to hit such heights in popularity. Once the opening theme received over one million downloads, the creator simply asked "why" when presented with this fact. When it comes to the opening theme, it seemingly cannot be stopped as "Shikairo Days" by Megumi Han has garnered some major attention on YouTube.

My Deer Friend Nokotan Continues to Sprint

Since hitting YouTube, Megumi Han's opening theme has garnered over ten million views in six days as of the writing of this article. You can check out the theme song for yourself by clicking the video below as My Deer Friend Nokotan continues to take the anime world by storm. Should the anime adaptation continue to hit these heights, a second season seems in the cards as the manga first started in 2019 and has plenty of material to adapt for the small screen.

If you have yet to dive into the wild world of My Deer Friend Nokotan, the series is streaming its early episodes on Crunchyroll. Here's how the streaming service describes the mind-bending anime, "Koshi Torako, a high schooler, one day feels something cold hit her face. Looking up, she spots a girl stuck, her antlers tangled in power lines. Helping Shikanoko, antlered and peculiar, turns Torako's life, a model student by appearance only, upside down. Thus begins a tale of a girl (once a delinquent) and another (a deer?), in this Girl Meets Deer adventure!"

My Hero Academia Epilogue Reveals Deku's Final Vow for Shigaraki https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-manga-ending-deku-shigaraki/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 03:45:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 36149b21-d96f-4fdc-86b0-82cf05e0967d

My Hero Academia is now in the midst of the manga's final few chapters, and the newest has revealed Izuku Midoriya's final vow to honor Tomura Shigaraki's memory in his own way! My Hero Academia officially ended the battle against Shigaraki and All For One earlier this Spring, and soon announced that the series would be coming to an end after a brief epilogue arc fleshing out the immediate aftermath of the war. As the epilogue continues to reveal how things are going to end for the heroes and villains, Deku's starting to get updates on how the world will heal from here on out.

With each of My Hero Academia's final chapters bringing us that much closer to the manga's grand finale, fans have gotten to see how key characters are moving on after the war. The newest chapter reveals how Spinner is moving on after everything that happened as the last surviving member of the former League of Villains, and he's the only one who's adamant about remembering the real Shigaraki rather than the monster the public is setting him out to be. But Deku assures him that he won't forget Shigaraki forever. He'll carry it with him for the rest of his life.

My Hero Academia: Deku Will Remember Shigaraki

My Hero Academia Chapter 427 showcases Spinner in Tartarus as Deku visits him after the war. Thanks to the government's current knowledge of Nomu, they were able to save Spinner before to save his sanity before he completely became a monster. Deku's there to deliver Shigaraki's final message to Spinner, and upon doing so, Spinner finds out that Shigaraki wanted to tell this message to his own friend directly. It's here that Spinner reveals how angry he is at how the rest of the world sees Shigaraki now.

The world may see Shigaraki as a villain and a monster, but Spinner saw him as a friend and as a ray of hope that he was sorely lacking before. He was Spinner's very first friend, and Deku understands where Spinner's coming from. Knowing that Shigaraki felt like he had to be a hero for the league's members, Deku believes he wanted him to deliver that final message in that same spirit. It's here that Spinner warns Deku that he'll eventually forget about Shigaraki as time goes on and the heroes go on to have more fights.

He'll write a book telling Shigaraki's story and the league's impact on the world, but Deku tells him not to worry. He won't forget Shigaraki. Deku's going to carry this fight with him for the rest of his life, and what it really meant to see Shigaraki try to destroy the world. In a way, Deku's probably the only other person other than Spinner who understood Shigaraki on this personal level so it makes sense that he would also never truly forget his biggest foe. No matter where the future takes him from here.

Amphibia Creator Would Continue the Show With Enough Fan Support https://comicbook.com/anime/news/amphibia-sequel-spinoff-matt-braly/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 02:22:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 29ed27a1-d42c-49a6-9e38-79c3572af655

Amphibia might have come to an end a couple of years ago, but the creator behind the series has some new ideas to continue the story for the show if there's enough support shown for the franchise! Amphibia was one of the notable new Disney Television Animation projects released within the last few years that came along in the same generation of hits like The Owl House, Big City Greens and more. Following its second season, Amphibia then confirmed it would be coming to an end with a third and final season that aired its episodes back through 2021 and 2022.

Amphibia wrapped up its run with a seemingly conclusive end to its story with that third season finale, but it turns out series creator Matt Braly has ideas for how to pick it all back up. During the special panel highlighting Amphibia and other Disney projects as part of Anime Expo 2024 this past weekend, Braly revealed that if enough support were shown for the upcoming art book releasing next year and the currently available Marcy's Journal: A Guide to Amphibia, then Braly would be open to the idea, "We do have some cool ideas for continuing the show, or continuing the story."

How to Watch Amphibia

While Braly did not reveal how the show or story could continue, it is possible to see Amphibia grow in some form through other releases such as comics and other mediums. An animated return for the series might not immediately be on the table, but if there is a swell of fan support for the franchise as a whole it'd likely be easier to argue for a potential animated revival down the line.

Amphibia did come to a proper ending, but there's always the hope of seeing more of its story someday to fill in the gaps left by its final time skip. If you wanted to check out the original animated series for yourself, you can now find the complete Amphibia run now streaming with Disney+. They tease it as such:

"Amphibia chronicles the comedic adventures of thirteen-year-old Anne Boonchuy. After stealing a mysterious music box, Anne is magically transported to the world of Amphibia, a wild marshland full of talking frog-people. With the help of an excitable young frog named Sprig, Anne transforms from monster to hero and discovers the first true friendship of her life."

Trigun Stampede is gearing up for a bright future with a new sequel series, and the anime has shared some cool new character posters heading into the release of Trigun Stargaze! Trigun Stampede was a new rebooted take on Yasuhiro Nightow's original Trigun manga series, and with it introduced a wholly different kind of animated take than seen in the classic anime years ago. But when Trigun Stampede came to an end last Spring, it had announced that the anime would be concluding with a then in production "final phase" of the reboot series. Now we've gotten a clearer picture of what this actually is.

Trigun Stampede took the stage during Anime Expo 2024 this year to announce that the reboot would be continuing with a new sequel series, Trigun Stargaze. While there are few details as to the anime's release window or date as of the time of this publication, the team behind the anime celebrated the new announcements with some special new posters. The first is a new poster of Vash and Wolfwood illustrated by Nightow himself, and two new character posters with Vash and Knives' designs from the finale. Check them out below:

What Is Trigun Stargaze?

Trigun Stargaze will serve as the official sequel to Trigun Stampede, and will be set two years after the events of that first series. A release date or window has yet to be announced as of the time of this publication, but the team at the studio teased that they will be trying to tap into the vibes of that classic Trigun anime adaptation from years ago. But with no release date or window yet, there also means there will be plenty of time to go back and check out the first season of the new reboot anime.

If you wanted to go back and check it out for yourself, you can find Trigun Stampede now exclusively streaming with Crunchyroll. As for what to expect from the reboot anime, they tease the series as such, "Vash the Stampede's a joyful gunslinging pacifist, so why does he have a $$6 million bounty on his head? That's what's puzzling rookie reporter Meryl Stryfe and her jaded veteran partner when looking into the vigilante only to find someone who hates blood. But their investigation turns out to uncover something heinous--his evil twin brother, Millions Knives." The classic Trigun is available to stream with Crunchyroll as well.

With the franchise returning for a new wave of episodes taking on the 2.5D Stage Play arc, it's now time to be introduced to a whole new wave of characters and a dark new facet of the Japanese entertainment industry.

Oshi no Ko Season 2's premiere introduced Aqua to the actors he'll be playing alongside for a stage production of Tokyo Blade, a popular manga getting a new adaptation. It's something anime fans might have seen from the outside, and now it seems like we'll get more of a look at the inner workings of such a situation. As for what to expect from the new season, HIDIVE teases what is going down in Oshi no Ko Season 2 as such, "Aqua's desire for revenge takes center stage as he navigates the dark underbelly of the entertainment world alongside his twin sister, Ruby. Kagurabachi Reaches Record Rank at Weekly Shonen Jump https://comicbook.com/anime/news/kagurabachi-weekly-shonen-jump-rankings-record/ Mon, 08 Jul 2024 22:27:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 4f095ac0-4300-4c2c-a4a7-a77938dc892d

Kagurabachi continues to be massively popular as the manga has reached a new top spot within the pages of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine! Kagurabachi has been a runaway success for Shueisha even before the first chapter of Takeru Hokazono's manga made its debut last Fall, and that fervor from fans has only continued to build with each new chapter that has been released. While the series has been popular with fans in the West, there's also been the lingering question of how well it's actually doing in the magazine and whether or not it will get to continue to tell its story.

That might be changing, however, as Kagurabachi has reached the top spot in the latest issue of Weekly Shonen Jump's table of contents. It's the first series available to read in the latest issue, and that's a pretty big deal. While this does not always indicate a level of popularity over some of the other manga releases, this top spot means that Shueisha's editors are choosing to lead off with Kagurabachi to draw fans into buying the magazine. So it's a pretty great sign of how strong Kagurabachi is doing with the editors.

How to Read Kagurabachi Manga

Takeru Hokazono's original Kagurabachi manga series currently has 40 chapters under its belt as of the time of this publication, and is likely not going to end any time soon given how highly Shueisha speaks of it thus far. If you wanted to check out the manga as it releases, you can find the newest chapters online for free with either Viz Media's digital Shonen Jump library or Shueisha's MangaPlus service (and the entire back catalog with a paid subscription). New chapters are released on a weekly basis, and the first physical volume will be getting an English language release in the United States later this Fall.

As for what to expect from this new manga that's been taking over Weekly Shonen Jump magazine with each new chapter, Kagurabachi is teased as such, "Young Chihiro spends his days training under his famous swordsmith father. One day he hopes to become a great sword-maker himself. The goofy father and the serious son--they thought these days would last forever. But suddenly, tragedy strikes. A dark day soaked in blood. Chihiro and his blade now live only for revenge. Epic sword battle action!"

Futurama Season 12 Shares First Poster https://comicbook.com/anime/news/futurama-season-12-hulu-poster/ Mon, 08 Jul 2024 21:58:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 6da08e2c-8697-474c-b8ca-5931ea21a5e5

Futurama is finally coming back for new episodes later this Summer, and Futurama has shared the first poster for Season 12 ahead of its debut! Futurama made its highly anticipated return last year with Season 11, a new slate of episodes picking up from where the Comedy Central broadcast of the animated series last left off before its second cancellation. Now that this first wave of episodes has been such a success with Hulu, Futurama has been picked up for many more episodes to come. So we're about to see a new season hitting Hulu in just a couple of more weeks.

Futurama Season 12 will officially kick off its run with Hulu beginning on July 29th, and to help celebrate the premiere, Hulu is now showing off more of the new season than ever before. Together with a new trailer showing off what Fry and the rest of the Planet Express crew will be up to in the coming season, Futurama has dropped the first poster for Season 12 teasing a rather destructive new problem that they will all have to deal with before it's all over. Check it out below:

Featuring a returning staff from the previous episodes, John DiMaggio, BIlly West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman are all confirmed to return to reprise their respective roles. Created by Matt Groening and developed by Groening and David X. Cohen who also serve as executive producers alongside Ken Keeler and Claudia Katz, Futurama Season 12 is teased by Hulu as such:

"Following Hulu's critically acclaimed 2023 revival of Futurama, the epic sci-fi series from Matt Groening and David X. Cohen returns in 2024 with ten all-new episodes. On this orbit around the sun, our occasionally heroic crew embarks on mind-bending adventures involving birthday party games to the death, the secrets of Bender's ancestral robot village, A.I. friends (and enemies), impossibly cute beanbags, and the true 5 million-year-old story behind the consciousness-altering substance known as coffee. And, of course, the next chapter in Fry and Leela's fateful, time-twisted romance."

Futurama has also been renewed for 20 more episodes following Season 12, which means Hulu has picked up the series for Seasons 13 and 14.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Teases New Sternritter Transformations in Part 3 https://comicbook.com/anime/news/bleach-thousand-year-blood-war-part-3-sternritter-powers/ Mon, 08 Jul 2024 20:28:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 4a210a44-661d-4ae5-bbc9-af6d59161ad0

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War is currently in the works on coming back for Part 3 of the new anime later this year, and the producer behind it all is setting up fans for new Sternritter power ups and transformations! Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3 - The Conflict will finally be making its premiere later this October as part of the Fall 2024 anime schedule, and with it fans will see the real fights between the remaining Soul Reaper captains and Sternritter begin. And while we're going to see many more Captains in action, we're also going to see Yhwach's strongest fighters power up as well.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3 - The Conflict shared quite a few updates during Anime Expo 2024 this past weekend, and producer Yoshihiro Tominaga teased that while we will be seeing many more Bankai in action in the new episodes, the Sternritter are also going to have some big moments of their own. These villains will be unlocking new forms and power ups much like the Captains they will be facing in the coming episodes, and will likely have some major animation to help pull it all off.

New Powers in Bleach: TYBW Part 3

"I also want to mention the Sternritter Royal Guards," Tominaga began in a special message to fans during Anime Expo 2024. "...who are just as unique and memorable as the Soul Reaper Captains especially from the transformations and power-ups they go through. We're working hard to go beyond the quality of the original manga to animate their scenes. I hope fans can look forward to that as well." While it's not clear which fighters in particular this tease is referring to, there are some big fights from the manga that will likely be explored in the coming episodes.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3 - The Conflict is currently scheduled to debut some time this October as part of the upcoming Fall 2024 anime schedule, but a release date has yet to be announced as of the time of this publication. For now, you can find Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War's first two parts now streaming with Hulu in the United States (and Disney+ in international territories) with both English and Japanese dubbed releases.

You can also find the entire original Bleach anime streaming there as well if you wanted to go all the way back to the beginning to see how it all began. There is also the original Bleach manga's chapters available with Viz Media's digital Shonen Jump library.

Bob's Burgers Star Jay Johnston Pleads Guilty to Charges Over January 6th Capitol Riot https://comicbook.com/anime/news/bobs-burgers-jay-johnston-pleads-guilty-january-6th-capitol-riot/ Mon, 08 Jul 2024 20:20:00 +0000 Timothy Adams e0cf1996-a6af-4db9-9164-c7f3a20cf56e

Actor Jay Johnston has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from his involvement in the riot attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Bob's Burgers voice actor was arrested and charged with federal crimes over a year ago, and on Monday, July 8th he pleaded guilty to civil disorder, which falls under a felony. District Judge Carl Nichols is scheduled to sentence Johnston on October 7th, with Johnston facing a maximum prison sentence of five years. However, the estimated sentencing guidelines recommend a prison term between eight to 14 months, though the judge doesn't have to abide by those guidelines of his plea agreement.

The 55-year-old Jay Johnston was the voice of Jimmy Peston on the animated series Bob's Burgers which airs on FOX. Johnston was caught on video as part of the mob that attacked the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, passing a stolen police officer shield around the mass of people near a tunnel on the Lower West Terrace that led to the Capitol, according to the affidavit. Johnston "was close to the entrance to the tunnel, turned back and signaled for other rioters to come towards the entrance," the agent wrote.

According to a court filing that accompanied Jay Johnston's plea deal, the actor used a cellphone to record rioters while they were breaking through barricades and engaging with police officers. The cellphone footage allegedly caught Johnson pounding his fists together and pointing. He was handed a water bottle by a rioter and then allegedly used it to help flush chemicals out of their eyes. Johnston was reportedly caught joining the rioters as they pushed against the officers who were guarding the tunnel to the Lower West Terrace.

According to the agent, Johnston was identified by current and former associates after the FBI published photos online. One of the associates reportedly gave the FBI text message evidence of Johnston acknowledging being at the Capitol during the January 6th riot. "The news has presented it as an attack. It actually wasn't. Thought it kind of turned into that. It was a mess. Got maced and tear gassed and I found it quite untastic," Johnston wrote, according to the FBI.

Jay Johnston's credits include Bob's Burgers, Bob Odenkirk and David Cross' Mr. Show with Bob and David, Arrested Development, and Anchorman, where he played one of the newsmen who participated in a street brawl. Johnston was replaced as the voice of Jimmy Pesto on Bob's Burgers by Eric Bauza.

Futurama Season 12 Trailer Released by Hulu https://comicbook.com/anime/news/futurama-season-12-trailer-released-by-hulu/ Mon, 08 Jul 2024 16:01:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame ba4a54f7-9369-4e2e-96f4-efd9cba112cb

Hulu has released the trailer for Futurama's upcoming twelfth season. The series made its return -- following its second cancellation -- with its eleventh season in July of last year, and it reintroduced fans to the Planet Express crew ten years after its previous run came to an end. The series hails from the producers of The Simpsons and has been on TV longer than almost any other animated sitcom (although American Dad! and Family Guy have more seasons, since they haven't been cancelled and revived as often as Futrama has). The good news (or rather, "Good news, everyone")? Futurama has recently been confirmed to have many more seasons now in the works.

You can see the trailer below. It doesn't give much of a concrete sense of what to expect this season, but it does have a rapid-fire montage of jokes featuring giant disco balls, the Harlem Globetrotters, a world of coffee brewed by rain, and some truly bizarre gunfights. And of course, there's a tease for what's up with Fry and Leela's relationship status -- a key element of last year's emotional, fan-favorite season finale.

Featuring a returning staff and cast from the previous season with Billy West, John DiMaggio, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman all attached. If you wanted to get back into the futuristic spirit, you can check out the first 11 seasons of the series streaming with Hulu as it's the perfect time to get back up to speed.

Here's the official synopsis for Futurama's latest reboot (although remember, this came out before season 11):

"After a brief ten-year hiatus, Futurama has crawled triumphantly from the cryogenic tube, its full original cast and satirical spirit intact. The ten all-new episodes of season eleven have something for everyone. New viewers will be able to pick up the series from here, while long-time fans will recognize payoffs to decades-long mysteries - including developments in the epic love story of Fry and Leela, the mysterious contents of Nibbler's litter box, the secret history of evil Robot Santa, and the whereabouts of Kif and Amy's tadpoles. Meanwhile there's a whole new pandemic in town as the crew explores the future of vaccines, bitcoin, cancel culture, and streaming TV."

Futurama Season 12 will be launching with Hulu on July 29th.

My Hero Academia Creator Explains How Dark Might Came to Life https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-youre-next-dark-might-inspiration/ Mon, 08 Jul 2024 03:38:00 +0000 Nick Valdez c839a607-f9b8-4201-8283-2571daa3f7d3

My Hero Academia: You're Next will be introducing a villainous take on All Might with the new movie, and the creator behind it all explained how Dark Might came to life in the first place! My Hero Academia will be returning to theaters across Japan later this Summer with its next major conflict, and fans have been curious to see more of the time in between the events of the Season 6 episodes and the now unfolding Season 7. But while My Hero Academia's war is ending in both the anime and manga, there's a question of just how big of an impact this new villain can have right in the middle of it all.

My Hero Academia: You're Next will be hitting theaters in Japan this August, and series creator Kohei Horikoshi detailed how Dark Might was conceived as the villain in a recent interview with Da Vinci magazine (as translated by @shibuyasmash on X). Noting how screenwriter Yosuke Kuroda had a plan for a potential evil version of All Might while working out the route for the next movie, Horikoshi then made it a full Dark Might that helped to fill in the gaps of the story the screenwriter was dealing with for the new movie.

Dark Might's Inspiration for My Hero Academia: You're Next

"I brought it up casually, like 'What about a villain like this?'" Horikoshi began. "But now that I think about it, there was a 'Black All Might' idea in the plot proposals that Kuroda-san had come up with. So I probably had that vaguely in mind. I also thought it would look good to add flowers or something stylish like that. I think we discussed how it would be interesting to change the 'colors'." As for Kuroda's end of things, they noted how Horikoshi had been previously discussed the idea of a villain that misinterpreted what "connections" are between people before Horikoshi presented the Dark Might design. So it all came together for the final project!

It won't be too long before we see the new movie in action, however, as My Hero Academia: You're Next will be releasing in Japan on August 2nd before releasing in North America beginning on October 11th. Featuring My Hero Academia series creator Kohei Horikoshi as the supervisor and new character designer, My Hero Academia: You're Next will be directed by Tensai Okamura for studio Bones. Yosuke Kuroda will be returning from the TV anime to write the script, Yoshihiko Umakoshi returns to provide the character designs, and Yuki Hayashi returns to compose the music.

One Piece's anime is gearing up for the next action packed phase of the Egghead Arc, and the preview for the next episode is hyping up the big fight between Red-Haired Shanks and Eustass Kid! One Piece: Egghead Arc has been heating up for Luffy and the Straw Hats as a traitor has popped up among the Vegapunks at the future island laboratory. But while they are currently in the crosshairs of a major World Government force heading their way, they are far from the only major story unfolding through the arc's newest episodes. In fact, there's a major fight taking place on the next island in the Straw Hats' path.

One Piece previously revealed the first look at the giants' homeland of Elbaf, and it was also revealed that Shanks was there at the moment. At the same time, Kid was rushing in and challenging the Emperor to a fight. Due to Shanks wanting the Road Ponegliffs that Kid has in his possession, and due to the fact that Kid has a grudge against Shanks' crew, it's now time for the two to clash. That's being teased with the preview for One Piece Episode 1112, and you can check it out below.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Teases Several New Bankai https://comicbook.com/anime/news/bleach-thousand-year-blood-war-part-3-kenpachi-bankai-tease/ Mon, 08 Jul 2024 02:33:00 +0000 Nick Valdez bd8ab603-0fb6-4063-9ae7-40c4552471c3

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3 - The Conflict will be making its debut later this year, and the team behind it all is teasing there will be even more Bankai revealed in the new episodes! Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War is gearing up to kick off the second half of the new anime taking on the final arc from Tite Kubo's original Bleach manga. The first two parts of the new season had revealed the start of the fights between the Soul Reapers and Yhwach's Sternritter forces, and now it's time for even more major fighters to join in on the action.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War still has to showcase some of the biggest fights from the final arc of the original series, and the team behind Part 3 is setting up for some big debuts. Producer Yoshihiro Tominaga teased that there would be lots of Captains using their respective Bankai, and more notably dropped the following tease about a particular one fans have been waiting to see, "This is already covered in the original manga, but a certain captain will finally reveal his Bankai. I think that's also one of the highlights of Part 3."

New Bankai In Bleach: TYBW Part 3

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3 - The Conflict will be picking up with the next phase of the fight against Yhwach despite the cliffhanger ending from Part 2, and there are a few notable Captains who have yet to fully unleash their respective powers in these fights. As for which captain Tominaga is referring to, Kyoraku is seen using his Bankai in the newest trailer. But he's also likely not that character fans are waiting for as Kenpachi Zaraki is still going to make his big comeback after revealing his Shikai in the previous episodes.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3 - The Conflict is currently scheduled to debut some time this October as part of the upcoming Fall 2024 anime schedule, but a release date has yet to be announced as of the time of this publication. Fire Force is currently in the works on a third and final season of the TV anime, and it turns out that the studio behind the new season has been secretly revealed! Fire Force wrapped up Season 2 of the anime quite some time ago, and in the time since, Atsushi Okubo's original Fire Force manga actually came to an end. That's why it makes a lot of sense to find out that the anime is indeed returning for its third season. But at the same time, this third season will also serve as the final one for the anime overall.

Fire Force has announced during Anime Expo 2024 that Season 3 is now in the works for a release some time in 2025, but has revealed very little information about what to expect from the new episodes. While the production staff or potential returning voice cast have yet to be revealed as of the time of this first announcement, the website for the anime still lists David Production as the studio for the new episodes. Now this could just be reflective of their work on the first two seasons, but is likely a good sign for the anime's grand finale.

The Elusive Samurai has now made its premiere as one of the standout new releases of the Summer 2024 anime season, and with its first episode has impressed fans with its opening theme sequence! The Elusive Samurai is the latest series from Assassination Classroom creator Yusei Matsui, and has been running in the pages of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine for a few years. But the series is about to become a lot more popular fairly soon thanks to its new anime adaptation premiering over the Summer, and it got things off to a very strong start with its opening theme sequence.

The Elusive Samurai ends up having quite the brutal premiere hidden within its packaging, and that's part of what makes its opening theme sequence so special. Titled "Plan A" as performed by Dish, the opening shows off the slate of characters fans will meet over the course of the anime while hiding just what kind of intense story there really is to be found here. It's why the manga has been such a sleeper hit, and that's going to be the case with the anime as well if the opening is anything to go by.

On the run and fighting to stay alive, Tokiyuki sets in motion his plan to reclaim his birthright."

He just inked a tribute to the world's strongest sorcerer, and all eyes are on Gojo Satoru as such.

As you can see below, the art brings Gojo to life with painstaking attention. Of course, the sorcerer bares Murata's famous aesthetic, and he is far from alone in this shot. We can see the Eyeshield 21 gang behind Gojo, and there is a good reason for that. Murata inked this tribute to thank Jujutsu Kaisen's creator for their recent support of Eyeshield 21, so you can see how this puzzle fits together.

If you are not familiar with Murata, well - we can only recommend you do some research ASAP. The artist climbed to fame for their work on Eyeshield 21, but in recent years, Murata has been lavished with praise for One-Punch Man. With series creator ONE on hand, Murata helped transform the superhero parody into a hit manga. Much of the series' success has been pinned to Murata's excellent manga adaptation as One-Punch Man season one was heavily inspired by his aesthetic. And of course, the anime has become a global success.

Now, Murata has tackled another hit IP, and Jujutsu Kaisen is thriving for it. If you have not met Gojo yet, you can be introduced easily enough. The manga for Jujutsu Kaisen is ongoing in the Shonen Jump app, and as for the anime, you can find it streaming on Crunchyroll as well as Hulu. So for more info on Jujutsu Kaisen, you can read its official synopsis below:

"For some strange reason, Yuji Itadori, despite his insane athleticism would rather just hang out with the Occult Club. However, her soon finds out that the occult is as real as it gets when his fellow club members are attacked! Meanwhile, the mysterious Megumi Fushiguro is tracking down a special-grade cursed object, and his search leads him to Itadori..."

My Adventures with Superman has reached its intense slate of final episodes for Season 2, and Clark is now in more danger than ever before! My Adventures with Superman Season 2 kicked off with Clark at his highest as not only was he dating Lois, but Jimmy was rich and successful. Clark then discovered that he even had a cousin who survived Krypton's destruction as well, and reached out to her in the hopes of finding someone who understood why he felt so isolated from humanity. But it all quickly went south from there with a long string of bad luck.

My Adventures with Superman Season 2 might have spent the latest episode showcasing how Lois and Jimmy ended up in space in their attempts to find and rescue Clark, it's time to get back to Clark himself as we last saw him within the clutches of Brainiac. It's going just as well as one might expect as Clark is being manipulated and challenged by his memories as the villain gets closer to taking control of Clark's body. My Adventures with Superman Season 2 Episode 8 Recap with Spoilers

  • Brainiac uses a device known as the Black Mercy, a Kryptonian device that traps Clark within his mind and allows Brainiac to see and manipulate his memories. Brainiac then explains that the current housing for his mind is slowly heading towards destruction and thus wants to take Clark's body for his own. Using Clark's memories, Braniac is trying to find his weakness and kill Clark. Meanwhile, Jimmy and Lois speak with Kara.
  • Jimmy invites her onto the ship so they can discuss things, much to Lois' protests. Kara's happy to see Jimmy, and it's clear there's a bit of a spark between the two of them. Kara asks them for their help because she thinks Clark's in danger...even if she's not completely clear about what's been happening with the planets and Krypton's empire thus far. Meanwhile, Brainiac takes Clark through his first fight with Livewire and is disappointed to find that Clark can't be beaten physically.
  • Then taking him back to his fight with Ivo, and wonders where he manages to find last minute strength to defeat these strong foes. Taking notice of Lois and Jimmy, Brainiac starts to explore more of that connection such as when Clark was fighting against his spaceship to protect them as seen in the first season. This only makes Brainiac more curious as Clark himself can't land a hit on Brainiac while trapped within the Black Mercy.
  • Meanwhile, Kara tells Lois and Jimmy that their best opportunity at getting Clark would be when Brainiac is recharging himself for maintenance. She still wants to speak with her perceived father to find out the truth of what's really going on, and will do so when Lois and Jimmy retrieve Clark. But Jimmy's also concerned about what's going to happen to Kara after as while she's been fighting for the Krypton empire in this way, there's still a whole universe she has yet to freely see.
  • Heading onto the ship, they move on with the plan but Kara tries to confess something to Jimmy. She blushes and says she feels admiration for him as the leader of the planet, but it's clear that she might be feeling something more instead. Hugging him before they part, Lois hilariously pokes at Jimmy about calling himself the leader of the planet. Back in Clark's mind, he's trying his best to stop Brainiac from seeing them. But instead, Brainiac notes how Clark seems to be afraid of hurting them himself.
  • He knows Clark fears about them not loving him in return for how much he protects them, and replays all of the memories he's gotten over the course of this season. Rejection from the scared humans, overhearing Lois saying he's different, Jimmy ditching him for Kara, and this is Clark's weakness. His love he has for his friends and family makes him vulnerable. Because he can't be beaten physically, he's weak mentally and Clark denies that this is the case. So Brainiac begins to manipulate his memories to make Lois say horrible things about him.
  • Meanwhile, Lois and Jimmy head to the observation deck and find Clark isn't there while Brainiac's drones start to activate. It's Kara who finds him, however, and she immediately confronts Brainiac over it. She wants to know what's really going on, and Brainiac explains that she actually previously refused to destroy the planets that they discovered before. Instead arguing about each of their good qualities, Brainiac then forced her to destroy them instead.
  • Kara finally understands how Brainiac has been manipulating her, and he doesn't mind as he's seeking to turn Clark into his next weapon instead. Inside of Clark's mind, he's still being tortured by Lois telling him terrible things. Having enough of this and refusing to believe this is true, Clark instead starts manipulating the Black Mercy himself and heads to his real memories of Lois offering him her love and support through their adventures so far. But Brainiac continues to push forward.
  • Showing Clark more instances of Lois telling him horrible things, Clark even starts to doubt whether or not those memories actually happened. Until finally, he revisits his breakup with Lois. This one true thing that happened starts to chip away at Clark's trust of the others. While Clark is fighting on the inside, Kara is fighting Brainiac on the outside. With one final push, the both of them land decisive blows and the physical and mental Brainiac until Clark frees himself from the Black Mercy.
  • Clark then has a vision of a younger version of himself on Krypton, and reunites with the rest of his family. But actually, Clark is still trapped within the Black Mercy. Brainiac has taken full control of Clark's body and morphs it into a dark kind of "Super Brainiac" look. Lois and Jimmy see this go down, and Brainiac declares that Kal-El is no more. Kara tries to fight him but fails as Brainiac explains that each generation of Kryptonians have been genetically built to be stronger than the last.
  • He himself was built to be the greatest mind of Krypton meant to uphold the greatest ideals of their empire, and explains that he still has love for Kara. Even so, he completely demolishes her in a fight. Jimmy tries to interfere with the piece of Kryptonite he and Lois brought, but it's killing both Kal-El and Kara instead of Brainiac as he can just move his mind to a new body. He then flings them off into space.
  • Thankfully, Mallah and Brain rescue them with the ship in time. Lost without much of a path forward, Lois reveals she's grabbed a Black Mercy device and puts it on in the hopes of going after Clark. She then enters a catatonic state like Clark was before, and the episode comes to an end.
